The Royal Astronomical Society (RAS) is the UK's
leading professional body for astronomy & astrophysics, geophysics,
solar and solar-terrestrial physics, and planetary sciences.
The RAS organises scientific meetings, publishes
research and review journals. The Society also awards grants and
prizes, maintains an extensive library, supports educational activities
and lobbies government. Its central London premises are available for
the use of its Fellows.
The Royal Astronomical
Society promotes the study of astronomy and geophysics including solar
and solar-terrestrial physics, planetary sciences and the `new
astronomies', such as astro-particle physics and astrobiology by means
of:
- the publication of research in its journals
- scientific meetings
- the award of modest grants
- educational activities
- the maintenance of a comprehensive reference library
